Can I have your attention please?

Quick question:

What kind of economy are we in?

Your answer tells me a lot about you.

For example, if you answered “Industrial”, you probably need to update your news feed.

(Once you get back from the 16-hour stint at the factory, obvs)

As Gary Vay-Ner-Chuck is fond of telling us, we’re in the “Attention” economy.

This probably isn’t news to you, but the rest of this email might be.

You see, as business owners, it’s not just about the attention we RECEIVE.

In fact, I’d go as far as saying that the attention we GIVE to others is probably our greatest strength.

Think about it for a second…

How does it feel to spend time with someone? I mean REALLY spend time with them, knowing that they’re not wearing a mask, doing anything for show…

… that they’re just being themselves?

Pretty special, right?

Any time someone feels they can be themselves in your company is awesome.

That’s when genuine connections are made – because you don’t have to spend time machete-ing your way through the bullshit facade.

Here’s the thing…

If being honest and transparent about ourselves is a great connector…

… why do so many freelancers and business owners spend so much time trying to create the “perfect” image to their audience?

It’s this kind of thing that stops you from making connections with clients who would love to work with you.

Remember – you’ve got to give them a reason to choose you.

You don’t need to come up with a weird and wonderful hook…

… and you definitely don’t need to project a “perfect” image of yourself…

… you’ve just got to start being more… YOU!

So, put the Dale Carnegie course on the backburner…

… and start being yourself a little more.
