I want to tell you WHY I broke one of the biggest “rules” in marketing.
Not only that, I’m going to show you, step-by-step, exactly HOW I did it…
… so you can be a “rule-breaker” too.
First off, what “rule” did I break and, more importantly…
“Dude… what’s with the air quotes?”
Thing is, in the world of marketing, there are no “rules” – as long as you don’t break the law, make false promises or post more content than Gary Vee…
… you can do what you like.
That said, there are still unspoken rules that business owners take as gospel.
Like… “thou MUST furnish value before thou delivers thy pitch”.
^^^ That one gets thrown around A LOT.
The idea of writing an email or a post that is 100% pitch – with NO VALUE WHATSOEVER is enough to curdle even the toughest freelancer’s custard.

Don’t ever be afraid to let your customers know they can give you money.
In fact, let’s craft that idea into something worth putting in bold:
If you have something that can make your customers’ lives better or easier, you’re doing them harm by not letting them know about it.
(I never put “read that again” in my emails but, if I did, I’d write it now…)
Your customers have a problem, you have the solution – why would you not tell them about it, you heartless bastard?
Note – “letting them know about it” is NOT the same as “beat them over the head with it”, though…
… that’s what it often FEELS like when you pitch your services, right?
Last week, I wrote a “pitchy” email.
Honestly? Until I went back and looked, I didn’t even notice.
“Maybe it would be useful to shoot a quick video, talking about my thought process when writing a ‘value-free, pitch-riddled’ email like this?” I thought…
Now, before you yell “NO!” at your device, at least give the video a watch to make sure.
Because if the idea of writing a “0% value… 100% ask” type email brings you out in a cold sweat, I think you’ll find it helpful.
If you do take the time to watch it, let me know if you’d like to see more videos like it, or if you have any questions.
I’d appreciate it.
Have a good ‘un!

P.S. Maybe you’re thinking…
“You’re slacking John…
“This would’ve been the perfect moment to say something like ‘if you want me to cast my copywriting eye over YOUR emails…
“… so I can help make them more compelling and profitable – for only £10 – here’s a link to my Quick ‘n Easy Copy Critiques page…’”
Were you thinking that?
You were? Thanks for the nudge. I owe you one!
