Dear John…

‘If I could’ve found a half-decent inspirational quote about putting yourself out there, I’d have put it here.’ – John Holt

Today’s email is a selfish one – to me, from me. A bit like a greedy Chuckle Brother.

It might be useful to you too. If it is, that’d be a nice bonus (and would probably reduce the number of unsubscribes I get).

Hey John,

I know you’re scared and second-guessing everything you do at the moment, but – and I say this with love…

… you need to step up.

You know your writing can help business owners, so why are you holding back?

I get that you feel weird having sales conversations when emotions are running high, and yeah, the last thing you want is for people to think you’re being manipulative or taking advantage of COVID by cashing in on their worry and uncertainty.

… but you wouldn’t be doing that.

Think about it this way – somebody, somewhere, is trapped – literally trapped – feeling the same as you.

They’re asking the same questions you are –

What should I do now?

How can I make this work?

How can I protect my family?

How can I get back in control?

They need your help.

They need your help to tweak their business model to get more customers, earn more money, and claw back some control in their life.

Other people aren’t scared – not in the slightest. They’re looking at the silver lining – they realise they’ve got an opportunity – a chance to start their business.

They need your help too.

They haven’t the foggiest idea of what they should do or how to get started. They’re frantically looking for guidance – for someone to help them bring their idea into the world.

They might not get another chance like this. They need your help – YESTERDAY!

You know you can help them, right?

So… why hesitate? Why are you hiding?

Who are you to shy away when people need you? How selfish is that?

Yeah, yeah. “I don’t want to take advantage…” and all that…

Look, raising your hand and telling people “I can help you!” isn’t taking advantage – it’s being a good human.

(Yes, even during a crisis and yes, even if you ask for money)

‘When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”‘ – Fred Rogers

You’re helping people escape from feeling scared, uncertain and alone.

You’re helping them see that there IS a way out of this – there is light at the end of the tunnel, and, regardless of what the government forces on us in the next few months, they CAN do something to make their lives better.

You’re offering them hope, direction and control – you’re giving them exactly what YOU need right now.

You’d pay to have that, wouldn’t you?

So, shut up and start telling people how you can help them.

Best wishes,

John

P.S. WTF is up with that loo paper in the downstairs lavvy? I’ve seen better quality scrape paper in a Mexican prison. Sort it out, would you?

—————–

I don’t know if I’m the only one who experiences guilt about offering services to folk during trying times.

Maybe you do too.

If so, we have to get over this.

People need our skills, service, products and things.

You and your thing could be the answer to someone’s prayers.

Maybe if you knocked on their door (metaphorically, obvs) and said, “Do you want this?”, they’d bite your hand off.

We need to let people know that we exist and how we can help.

We need to show people our stuff.

Showing people our things isn’t slimy or sleazy.

(Damn, I wish I’d saved the Mexican prison reference for that bit…)

… and it isn’t cashing in.

It’s letting them know that there is an option – there IS a way out…

… and that we think they’re worth helping.

So, what’s your thing? Maybe it’s the one thing I need right now…

John

P.S. And because YOU are worth helping…

I have something that will help you get your online stuff together in the shortest amount of time.

To make money online, you don’t need a complete copy makeover, you just need three things and tomorrow I’ll tell you what they are so you can start getting back in control.

Oh, and I’ll also probably definitely make you an offer, so brace yourself.

There will only be a few spots available, so feel free to reply to this if you want a head start.
